"This isn't just a New York problem. It's a national Democratic Party problem. Look at California, the bluest state in the country with Democratic supermajorities. Universal health care can't pass. High-speed rail becomes a decades-long boondoggle. Housing costs spiral out of control despite Democratic control of every lever of power. Why? Because having a "D" next to your name doesn't mean you're willing to challenge the interests that profit from the status quo."

This is exactly right, interests that benefit from the status quo are the real obstacle. And compromising is not possible! And if those interests frustrate Mamdani's very real mandate, we need to hold them accountable in primary elections and action!

This could be a description of Massachusetts, too.

Power belongs to the people. It always has. Not to oligarchs, special interests, corporations etc etc. Get enough people supporting your movement and you will win, then use that power to help all people. Because those mentioned above care about profits, and profits only.

I was in the room where it happened. In 2010 in Washington County, Missouri, after knowing how important it was to keep control of redistricting, Democrats lost miserably. All the oxygen went out of the room and Democrats rolled over like sprayed flies. They never recovered. Some became Republicans Lite embracing free market economics, abandoning abortion rights and supporting NRA. So who needs Democrats anymore? Who can we turn to?

Your point of establishing a presence that makes adversaries think twice (or more) before “fucking with you” has been lost on the modern Democratic Party.

The NRA, AIPAC, FINTECH, etc. and the GOP writ large all know the aforementioned maneuver. The Dems have abandoned the practice so far as their constituents are concerned. Their donors, however, enjoy the full finger wagging attacks of an Iron Bladder Booker type should their interests be threatened. Dem Voters, however, are a group to be managed… not advocated for.

I grew up in the Vegas of the 1960’s and early 70’s. Due to my mother’s specialty in Casino “Cage” management, I was raised around both the Cowboy and Goombah Mobs.

The movie “Casino” was largely based on real characters from my childhood. Awkward when the folks your family works for blows up the father of one of your classmates.

Obviously, messaging by violence was not uncommon. However, a detente was effectively maintained by the threat of a highly undesirable outcome likely be inflicted upon your opponent. Shotgun to the face was the calling card of our family’s employers if norms were violated. It was a pretty pragmatic, though extralegal, means of maintaining the overall peace.

Obviously, I’m not advocating violence in our current political sphere…

Though it would be far more effective for the Dems, both for messaging to opponents and rallying constituents,

To have those working contrary to the well being of our society and individual quality of life:

Fucking FEEL as though they had violence visited upon them.

All the best.
